The first step along the road to producing a Parish Plan for Beckingham cum Saundby was taken on Saturday 1st July 2006. An informal Have Your Say Day was held in the Recreation Room, inviting all residents of the village to drop in, have their say, and ask questions about what form the Parish Plan was likely to take. Refreshments in the form of coffee, tea and cold drinks were available to all.
On hand to answer questions were two Parish Councillors, Graham Dolling and Vice Chair Brian Suart - two volunteer residents, Martin Keeble and Trevor Whiting - and a representative from Nottinghamshire Rural Community Council Jonathan Dawson. Visiting residents, which included some younger members of the community, were asked to complete a simple questionnaire, to indicate their interest in a number of subjects such as - transport, services, environment, housing and planning, sports and recreation. It was interesting to note that without prompting, 37 per cent of those attending, wanted to see a Pub/Restaurant in the village.
There was sufficient interest shown for the Parish Council to agree to go forward with the Parish Plan. The next action by the residents will be a full public meeting and village appraisal. Watch this space!!
