Citizen of the Year Award 2012

A suggestion was made to the Parish Council that they should present a Good Citizen Award each year to a chosen member of the community who had given dedicated and committed service to the Parish and community. This was thought to be an excellent idea and they readily agreed. A name was nominated and accepted by the Parish Council. A certificate was designed and printed which will be given to the chosen person each year for them to keep. A shield was made with provision for a name to be engraved each year which the recipient may hold for the twelve months.

It was hoped to make the presentation of the first award at the July Parish Council Meeting but unfortunately the shield was not ready in time. Instead the first recipient Mr John Smith was presented with the framed certificate and the shield complete with name engraved, by the Parish Council Chair Mr Brian Suart, assisted by Vice Chair Mr Jim Butcher, at the weekly Village Hall Coffee Morning held in the Recreation Room on Monday 16th July 2012.

John was both surprised and pleased to receive the award. He cares greatly for the village and has voluntarily, often without being asked and without reward, given a great deal of his time in tidying up different areas of the village, making big improvements everywhere. In particular he worked hard in the old cemetery, tirelessly cutting back hedges and overgrown areas, making it almost unrecognisable and vastly improved. In the process headstones which had been hidden for many years were revealed. His efforts benefit the whole community and are greatly appreciated. A well deserved award!
