The Parish Council wish to bring to the community’s attention this latest document issued by the planning department at Bassetlaw District Council which can be accessed by the following web site: -

This document identifies potential development sites within Beckingham. The results of the housing needs survey carried out in February this year can be viewed from this site.

There is to be a public consultation event in the Recreation Room on the 30th November between 1400 – 1830hrs. Any member of the community with views about the development of the village should make every effort to attend this event and discuss their views with the planning policy team.
As you may be aware an application to develop a public house at Station Road was approved by appeal and is currently awaiting a developer. The application for this site did cause a little concern with a small number of the community. This site was of course the second choice application after our preferred site (close to the village hall and roundabout and on the edge of the village) which would have caused least disruption to any of our residents was refused at appeal by an earlier Inspector. The Parish Council are mindful that their efforts on behalf of the community should as far as possible represent everyone and not a minority.

You, the community, are now in a unique position to directly influence this consultation by making known your feelings. Yes, we still need a public house and restaurant within our community, but we wish to have it near the village hall which was the site The Parish Council first identified. Many of you wrote letters of support. Please write again with support for a new pub located adjacent to the village hall and present it to the planning team on Wednesday 30th November at the Recreation Room. Those of you who were disappointed with the appeal decision on site 2 should also write with support for site 1. There is now a real chance to overturn the first Inspector’s decision.
People pressure can be successful in achieving this but it needs everyone to voice their opinion. Please put the date in your diary to deliver your letter.
